Early care that sets kids up for long-term smile success.
What is interceptive orthodontics?
Also known as Phase 1 treatment, interceptive orthodontics focuses on guiding jaw development and correcting issues while a child is still growing. This approach typically begins between the ages of 7–10, when early intervention can make future treatment simpler and more effective. At Friendly Neighborhood Orthodontist, we take a conservative, education-first approach. Dr. Patel only recommends Phase 1 care when it’s truly needed—and when it can make a meaningful difference in your child’s health, confidence, and development.

Frequently asked questions
See how early treatment helped guide healthy development in real kids' smiles.
Not every child needs Phase 1 treatment. That’s why we always start with a free, honest evaluation. If your child’s growth is on track, we’ll simply monitor it and check in periodically.
Look for things like early or late tooth loss, difficulty chewing, crossbites, crowding, or jaws that shift. But even if things seem normal, a professional evaluation can detect issues you can’t see.
In some cases, yes. Phase 1 often reduces the time or complexity of Phase 2. If more treatment is needed later, it will be easier, shorter, and more predictable.
